Understanding CBD vs. THC

When so many people start to talk about the arrival of cannabis as a mainstream substance that is legal to use, it is understandable to try and learn a bit more about how it impacts the body. And it is hard to do that without going over the chemicals that are contained in cannabis.

The two most common chemicals that you will hear about are CBD and THC. It is why we want to focus on the differences between the two. And we will also go over terpenes and the impact they have on the consumption of cannabis.

CBD and THC

Firstly, you have to understand that both substances are very similar chemically. They are made up of the same atoms! Hydrogen, carbon and oxygen, 30 to 21 to 2!

The difference is how the atoms are arranged. And because of that difference, you get a completely different impact on the body when cannabis is consumed. It is hard to imagine that you could have such a difference between cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol, but it is true.

We can go into detail about the chemical combinations of CBD and THC and how cannabinoids impact the body. But we know that most people want to focus on what happens when you take cannabis that is high in THC, compared to cannabis that is higher in CBD.

CBD Impact

Most of the impact of CBD is very subtle. It can be helpful if you want to find a way to relax or feel calm. It is also said to help with pain. And it has many health benefits, which our magazine will go over in some detail.

THC Impact

When you are consuming cannabis that has a lot of THC, you are going to get a psychoactive effect. When you think about getting “high” from cannabis, you are thinking about getting high off its THC.

Terpenes

In cannabis, you will find these aromatic metabolites that are called terpenes. They are also found in essential oils and other substances.  When you find a cannabis stain that has complimentary terpenes and CBD or THC, then you will have an even better effect!
